Climate Change is real, mofu!
The Koch brothers are free-market capitalists and anti-global warming campaigners. Which would all be fine, except for the names and fronts they seem to hide behind. The Koch's are a case study in faking it on a massive scale.

Wach auf, raste aus — dann setz dich in Bewegung from Peter Vogelsanger on Vimeo. Up, Freak Out from Weathergal on Vimeo. This really isn’t about polar bears any more. At this very moment, the fate of civilization itself hangs in the balance. It turns out that the way we have been calculating the future impacts of climate change up to now has been missing a really important piece of the picture. It seems we are now dangerously close to the tipping point in the world's climate system; this is the point of no return, after which truly catastrophic changes become inevitable. Wake up, Freak Out - then get a Grip is a short, animated film by Leo Murray about the single most important task in all of human history: preventing runaway global warming.

Motorola said it was the world's first carbon neutral phone. As well as using recycled materials for the plastic casing, the company also pledged to offset the carbon dioxide used in manufacturing, distribution and operation of the phone through investments in renewable energy sources and reforestation. Motorola, which has lost market share by being slow to follow trends such as touchscreens and high-speed data links, also plans to showcase three different items at CES: a relatively large touchscreen tablet phone, a rugged phone, and a rechargeable cable TV remote control with a find feature. (via geekologie)
Japan has set a target of increasing the amount of solar power generation by 10 times the current level in 2020 and 40 times in 2030. To meet the target, the government views it as vital to facilitate the introduction of solar power generation at public facilities, in addition to use in the household and private sectors. Those public facilities run by companies are currently able to receive subsidies representing one-third of the total cost. Under the current framework, only public schools and other facilities managed by local governments are eligible to receive a 50 percent subsidy when installing solar power generation systems.
Located 80 km (50 miles) northwest of Tokyo, the 41 hectare (10 acre) Pal Town, dubbed "Solar City," received free solar panels from 2002 through a 9.7 billion yen state-backed study on how to ensure a steady supply and avoid blackouts. Lots of small solar power generators are connected to the power grid. But that power is unreliable in cloudy Japan. At high noon in sunny weather, a 4-kilowatt rooftop power generator produces more than enough power to run a typical household. But in cloudy weather, the power generated is less than half. Officials also say that without a comprehensive strategy involving both corporations and local government, expanding the solar grid to other parts of the country would be difficult. "People want solar power," said Kazuo Nagashima, an Ota City assistant section manager. Virtually all 550 families that now have solar panels in Pal Town say they want to keep them after the tests end in March 2010. "But local governments can do very little on their own."(Quelle: Reuters.com) Japan macht also erste, kleine Schritte in Richtung CO2 freier Zukunft. Cool!
"We can do nothing to stop climate change on our own and so we have to buy land elsewhere. It's an insurance policy for the worst possible outcome. After all, the Israelis [began by buying] land in Palestine," said Nasheed, also known as Anni.(via io9.com) So und nun noch die ganz schlechte Nachricht.
